


Midshipman Candidate Arc patch
To become a midshipman candidate at the United States Naval Academy (USNA), you must:
Be at least 17 years old and not yet 23 on July 1 of the year you're admitted
Be a United States citizen, with some exceptions for international midshipmen
Be unmarried, not pregnant, and have no parental obligations
Have excellent moral character
Be academically qualified
Be medically qualified
Pass the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA)
Receive an official nomination
Demonstrate leadership and military bearing
Have a strong GPA, quality courses, and college admissions test scores
Candidates must also undergo New Student Indoctrination (NSI) at the Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois. NSI includes:
A knowledge test
A physical readiness test
A third-class swim qualification
Small arms handling and marksmanship training
Exposure to tear gas
Firefighting and line handling
